Subreddits That Allow Giveaways (and Their Rules)

We built RDT Picker, a Reddit comment picker, and wrote these guides by watching how organizers run real giveaways with it.

The best subreddits for giveaways are the ones whose own rules say giveaways are welcome, and those rules vary a lot. Some communities let members host giveaways freely, some want moderator approval first, and some send them to another subreddit. Below are seven communities whose rules we read on November 1, 2026, a quick way to check any other subreddit yourself, and a message you can send to the moderators.

How to Check Whether a Subreddit Allows Giveaways

Sitewide permission means little if the community says no, so check before you write a word of your post. It takes about five minutes:

  1. Read the rules. On the subreddit's page, open the rules list or "About" section. Look for "giveaway," "contest," "raffle," "advertising," and "self-promotion."
  2. Open the wiki, if there is one. Rules are often explained in more detail at the subreddit's wiki.
  3. Search the subreddit for "giveaway." Recent posts show the accepted format. If none exist, treat that as a warning.
  4. Message the moderators. If anything is unclear, ask through modmail before posting.

Subreddits for Giveaways: What Their Rules Say

We read each community's current rules through public Reddit viewer sites and link to the real Reddit page for each one below. Rules change, so open the link and confirm before you post.

SubredditTopicGiveaways
r/pokemontradesGamingAllowed in a dedicated thread format
r/amiiboGamingAllowed with conditions
r/pcmasterracePC and gamingAllowed with conditions
r/buildapcTechAllowed only with moderator approval
r/FantasyBooksAllowed with restrictions
r/boardgamesTabletop gamesRestricted, five requirements
r/freebiesGeneralNot allowed; contests go elsewhere

r/pokemontrades (gaming)

The community's giveaway wiki defines a giveaway as giving Pokémon to people who request them or to users chosen by random chance. Only giveaways with "mystery prizes" need moderator approval. Hosts cannot ask for compensation of any kind, entry is limited to commenting, using the in-game trading system, or starting a trade, and each giveaway gets one thread. Giveaways must run on the subreddit, and finished threads should be marked completed.

r/amiibo (gaming and collectibles)

The amiibo giveaway rules require that you have the figure in hand and ready to ship, with no preorders. Social media can be one way to enter but cannot be the only way, and winners cannot be made to pay for shipping. The wiki also mentions a self-promotion guideline of about ten percent of your post history.

r/pcmasterrace (PC and gaming)

The r/pcmasterrace rules are among the most detailed. Members can host giveaways, but entry cannot require subscriptions or other outside benefits, conditional giveaways are banned, and winners cannot be chosen by upvote count. Each user gets one entry unless the poster says otherwise. Keys should be sent by private message, not posted in public, and physical prizes need photo proof of ownership. Giveaways hosted elsewhere need moderator approval, and asking for upvotes is prohibited.

r/buildapc (tech)

Under the r/buildapc rules, Rule 6 states that any giveaway must be approved by the moderators before it is posted. Unauthorized giveaways are treated as off-topic. Self-promotion and advertising are banned, and company representatives need approval for their posts.

r/Fantasy (books)

The r/Fantasy rules allow giveaways with restrictions. They must be hosted on the subreddit with entries as comments, entries by direct message are not allowed, and giveaways must be text posts. Promotional posting is limited to users with a track record in the community and capped at two promotional posts per calendar year. Anything not covered goes to modmail for prior approval.

r/boardgames (tabletop)

The r/boardgames posting guidelines say all contests and giveaways must meet five requirements. Among them: rewards must be immediately fulfillable, the drawing must be entirely contained on the subreddit, there can be no promo codes or requirements to like, share, or promote anything, and nobody can get extra chances for promoting externally. Winners must be announced in the post and rewards promptly fulfilled.

r/freebies (general)

The r/freebies FAQ says contests and giveaways do not belong there, and it points people to a separate contests subreddit. The FAQ names it two ways, so check which one is active before posting.

What These Rules Have in Common

Different communities, similar worries. Across the six that allow giveaways:

  • Approval matters. Several want moderators to sign off first or send unclear cases to modmail, and the rest expect you to follow their rules.
  • Entry mostly stays on Reddit. Comments are the common entry method, and outside actions are restricted or banned.
  • Votes are off limits. Where votes are mentioned, winners are not picked by upvotes and asking for them is banned. Reddit's Disrupting Communities policy prohibits vote manipulation too.
  • Prizes must be real. Some communities require prizes to be in hand and delivered promptly.
  • Announce winners in the thread. One community requires it, and it is good practice everywhere.

These lines are a good checklist for any community you pick. If you want a ready-made rules block, the Reddit giveaway rules guide has one you can paste in.

A Mod-Approval Message You Can Copy

When a community requires approval, or the rules are unclear, send this through modmail:

Subject: Giveaway request — [prize] Hi mods. I'd like to run a giveaway in r/[subreddit]. Prize: [prize and value] Entry: one free comment on the post Ends: [date, time, time zone] Winner: picked at random from valid comments after the deadline Who I am: [community member / owner of X] Is this okay, and is there a format you prefer? I'm happy to change anything.

Wait for a yes before you post. If you run a business, say so openly.

Running Your Own Subreddit's Giveaway

If you moderate a community, you set the rules for it. Write them down in your sidebar or a pinned post, require comments to enter, and announce the winner in the same thread. When you draw, paste your post's link into the Reddit comment picker. The organizer needs an account to run a draw, entrants do not, and a free account includes 3 draws in total. Creator is $5 per month and Growth is $50 per year, both with unlimited draws. For the full process, see how to run a Reddit giveaway.

Key Takeaways

  • Check the subreddit's rules, wiki, and recent posts before you post.
  • Several communities require moderator approval, so message the mods first.
  • Entry by comment, no vote or share requirements, and public winner announcements are the common thread.
  • Rules change, so reread them on the day you post.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which subreddits allow giveaways?

Many do, with conditions. Of the seven checked here, some allow them with rules, buildapc requires moderator approval first, and r/freebies redirects contests elsewhere. Always read the specific community's current rules.

Do I need permission to post a giveaway on Reddit?

Some subreddits require moderator approval, such as buildapc, while others only expect you to follow their rules. When in doubt, send a modmail first.

Can I post my giveaway in several subreddits?

It is risky. Several communities limit hosting to their own subreddit, and repeated identical posts look like spam. Ask each community's moderators separately.

Where can I see a subreddit's giveaway rules?

Check its rules list, its wiki, and a search for "giveaway" in that subreddit. If it is unclear, message the moderators.
